D-20 Rockwheel Scaling a Railway Embankment

The Project

Scaling of rock on a high railway embankment working for Network Rail. It is critical to scale the rock accurately and in a way to ensure minimum disruption and to minimise the fall of rock onto the rail track below.

The Solution

A D-20 Rockwheel with T1 picks was used attached via a quick hitch adapter bracket to a Caterpillar 330 excavator.

This ensured very accurate and efficient cutting in a controlled way to minimise the fall of rock.

Comments

Limited time was available to complete the job so care had to be taken to ensure rocks did not fall onto the rails below. The Rockwheel allowed us to scale the rockface without disturbing the strata. (W.M. Plant representative).
