D-15 Rockwheel Tyne Tunnel Diaphragm Walls Scaling
260M New Tyne Crossing project included the development of a second vehicle tunnel under the River Tyne, followed by the major refurbishment of the original vehicle tunnel which opened in 1967.
The image below shows how diaphragm walls are made.
After the diaphragm walls are completed they’re left in a uneven surface depending on the ground, so The D-15 Rockwheel was used to scale the walls and leave a profiled finish to them.
