Webster Technologies selected as DIT Export Champions

March 12, 2019

For a small business selling your products outside the UK can be a daunting prospect. While selling internationally can undoubtedly be an opportunity to grow your business it can be challenging to know where to start.

Webster Technologies are an example of a business who found themselves in this position over 15 years ago now. Since then they have gone on to supply their in house designed specialist cutting attachments and design consultancy services across the world.

The knowledge and experience they have gained on their export journey has led them to becoming chosen as a growing movement of Export Champions and part of an initiative run by the Department of International Trade.

We’re really proud to have been asked to become an Export Champion and share our personal experience of exporting with others. We understand what it’s like to see the exciting opportunity exporting offers but also understand the challenges to realising it.“ said Belinda Naylor, Business Development Manager for Webster Technologies.

With support from the Department of International Trade we have been able to successfully grow our international presence. Alongside tapping into the knowledge of Trade Advisors about specific sectors and countries we have been supported to visit international trade shows enabling us to make connections, develop market intelligence, and exhibit our products on a global stage. The DIT have helped us overcome some of the barriers associated with exporting. In the current landscape we think it’s now more important than ever to inspire and encourage businesses that can export but have not started or are just beginning and to help by signposting them to the support that is available through the DIT.

Belinda went on to say, “We were delighted to get the attention of Dr Liam Fox Secretary of State for International Trade at the recent Export Champions launch day.” Ian Webster, Technical Director explained “Alongside running our UK operations supplying our products for some of the biggest infrastructure projects such as Hinkley Point and Cross Rail we have been developing a new hydraulic hammer supported partly through funding from Innovate UK, the Governments Research and Innovation agency.  It was great to be able to share our story of innovation with the Minister and he was genuinely interested to hear about our progress and vision for launching the product in the UK and eventually to a global market.
